Jonathan Haller, the owner of Stateline GIS, has more than 15 years of experience in GIS and has been involved in every stage of hundreds of projects in the cultural resource, environmental planning, and right of way industries.
Jonathan began working in GIS in 1999, performing data management and database design tasks for a small land development company in Tucson, Arizona. In 2005, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, subsequently working for several companies in southern Arizona as an archaeological technician, focusing on mapping and field data collection.
While attending graduate school, Jonathan worked in the GIS department of a multi-industry company in Tucson, providing high-end GIS products in paper and digital form and conducting analysis, and, in 2011, he received his Master of Science in GIS from the University of Arizona. Shortly after that, Jonathan took over as the GIS Lead at Tierra Right of Way Services, a land services company, also in Tucson, where he was responsible for producing timely, high-quality GIS work for hundreds of projects in the cultural resource, environmental planning, and right of way industries. In this position, Jonathan also developed and improved automating procedures, increased the efficiency and reliability of digital field recording, and managed cloud-based interactive GIS services and applications. His project management-related upgrades allowed departments to adhere to budget while increasing the quality of their product.
In 2013, Jonathan relocated to Washington State and began providing freelance work for close friends and colleagues based in the area. These freelance jobs started as brief consultations to help out people who were feeling overwhelmed or needed a little assistance getting some of the grunt work done on time, but they soon became frequent enough that Jonathan was able to devote the time and money to formalizing a business.
Stateline GIS
After a year of doing freelance work, Jonathan decided that it was time to realize his dream of opening a full-service GIS consulting/service company. Technology changes at such a rapid pace that keeping up with it can be a full-time job, and many companies find themselves falling behind. However, GIS does not have to be inaccessible or expensive. With this in mind, Jonathan sat down with his laptop and a pot of coffee on a cold day in early 2015 and formally organized Stateline GIS, a full-service company whose goal is to make high-quality GIS available to everyone.
